| MAKING POSSIBILITIES |
| The type and pictures you see in front of you are the result of some pretty amazing technology, made by MADENTEC Inc., starting with a device called Tracker ". Sitting on top of my monitor, about the size and shape of half a pear, Tracker translates light reflected from a small silver circle into mouse movement on the computer screen. By attaching a circle to the front of the brim of my hat I am able to guide the cursor around my computer screen using head movement only. |
| Mouse "Click", "Double Click" and "Hold" are accomplished through a "sip and puff" mouth devise, that looks a lot like an operator's microphone, called "Wisp " also made by MADENTEC Inc.. With the addition of Dragon Systems "Naturally Speaking " all keyboard and mouse commands can be accomplished by voice although I still find MADENTEC's "ScreenDoors "on screen keyboard invaluable. |
| Setting this up and making in all work was made possible by David Hermansen of Enabling Solutions. David helped me with hardware, software setup, changes and updates as they occurred as well as solving problems in a crisis. |
| Randy Marsden's MADENTEC group have also made it possible to answer the phone, operate my TV and stereo remote and control a multitude of other tasks from my computer with their "Proxi ". And now all of these functions are controllable from my chair, anywhere within a 150 foot radius of the computer, by voice commands with another device called "Audio Rover". |
| MADENTEC not only helped me install the equipment but also gave me the opportunity to test new technology and even make one of my ideas, a head controlled laser pointer, into reality. This combination of technology, expertise and level of dedication have made what seemed impossible possible. |
